Faith & Film Series "The Forge of Friendship"

Join us for a very special preview screening of The Forge of Friendship, an upcoming documentary film series about the almost 40-year friendship between C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien. With insights from the filmmakers, our special guests, sections of the new, about-to-be-released film series will be shown. This memorable Faith & Film event opens NCB's "Learning from the Inklings in Wartime" conference.

The Forge of Friendship explores the bonds of friendship between two of the world’s most famous authors, J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis. Learn how the forces that shook the first half of the 20th Century shaped their lives and legacies. Experience the profound impact of war, as each man took up arms and then watched the next generation do the same. Marvel at how their friendship began and then evolved as it was tested by personal and professional challenges. Through interviews with experts, academics, admirers and even those who knew them personally, the film uncovers the beliefs and the shared love of language and story that led to the creation of some of the most beloved tales of our time, The Lord of the Rings and The Chronicles of Narnia.

A panel discussion with some of the filmmakers and scholars who are here for the conference will follow the screening.

About the Faith & Film series:

In this series we will examine the potent and relevant medium of film in exploring themes of love, faith, conscience, evil, death, reception, grace, morality, identity, and our yearning for the sacred. Each month we will view a different film––each unique, compelling, and demanding––reflecting our current times. Each film is curated by those who love this artistic medium and will host a conversation following our viewing.
