Join this roundtable discussion, among Asian American academics and church leaders, about the history and present-day impact of religious nationalism in the United States. Event will begin with a presentation by Brad Onishi, author of Preparing for War: The Extremist History of White Christian Nationalism - and What Comes Next. A response will then be given by Ray Chang, President, Asian American Christian Collaborative, followed by conversation with a panel of Bay Area Asian American leaders (see below). Craig Wong, executive director of NCB, and Grace Kaori Suzuki, Christ United Presbyterian Church, will serve as co-moderators. There will be time for audience Q&A, and roundtable conversation among the attendees. All are welcome.

About Dr. Brad Onishi
"Dr. Onishi is a scholar of religion and cohost of the Straight White American Jesus podcast. His writing has been published by the New York Times, LA Review of Books, and Religion & Politics, among other outlets. He holds degrees from Azusa Pacific University, Oxford University, and the L'Institute catholique de Paris, and he received his PhD from the University of California at Santa Barbara. A TEDx speaker and author, editor, or translator of four previous books, Onishi teaches at the University of San Francisco and lives in the Bay Area with his wife and daughter." - from Preparing for War.
About Pastor Ray Chang
Pastor Raymond Chang is the president of the Asian American Christian Collaborative, a pastor, and writer. He regularly preaches God’s Word and speaks throughout the country on issues pertaining to Christianity and culture, race and faith. He has lived throughout the world (Korea, Guatemala, Panama, Spain, China), traveled to nearly 50 countries, and currently lives in Chicagoland, serving as the Executive Director of the TENx10 Collaboration (an initiative of the Fuller Youth Institute at Fuller Seminary), which is a collaborative movement that is geared towards reaching 10 million young people over 10 years with the gospel). Prior to his role at Fuller, Raymond served for 7+ years as the Associate Chaplain for Discipleship at Wheaton College. He also worked in the for-profit and nonprofit sectors, and served in the Peace Corps in Panama. He has contributed chapters to several books including “Ministers of Reconciliation: Preaching on Race and the Gospel” (Lexham), “Confronting Racial Injustice: Theory and Praxis for the Church” (Cascade), “Preaching Romans from Here” (Wipf and Stock). He is currently pursuing his PhD on the intersection of Spirituality and Campus/Organizational Racial Climates. He is married to Jessica Chang.
