Dear Friends,

Thanksgiving 2012 Letter

As the fall season rises before us, we find ourselves experiencing a kind of school-readiness—a longing to learn, to be stretched, nourished, and challenged in our discipleship. In his letter to the Colossians, Paul encouraged those disciples and us, too, to clothe ourselves in love, to let the peace of Christ rule in our hearts, and “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly” (2:16). How do we clothe ourselves in love? What helps us let Christ into our hearts and lives?

At New College Berkeley we offer a rich array of ways to let the word of Christ dwell in us through full semester courses, seminars, prayer retreats, spiritual direction groups, and more. Many have found that studying Biblical Hebrew not only brings the text alive, but it also allows it to dwell in their hearts as prayer. Writing your journey is a creative way of reading the “living letter” of your precious life (2 Corinthians3:2-3). Group spiritual direction offers an opportunity to respond prayerfully with a few others to how the Holy Spirit is writing the letter of your own life. Spiritual practices are ways to be clothed, day after day, with God’s love which binds all things together and orders the way we live.

As we discard the sandals of summer, come to New College Berkeley, and clothe yourself in the grace of God available through prayer and thoughtful discipleship.

Blessings, in Christ,
